5 Things You Should Know BEFORE You Put Your House on the Market!

1.  You've heard it before - Curb Appeal - yes, it's still important. Pretend you don't live there and as you drive up, look at your house with new eyes. Is the paint old and cracked? Are the flowers dead? Is the grass brown? Do the squirrels even refuse to live here anymore? If so, you have some work to do…OR your price should reflect it. A word to the wise though…you will usually reap more money by doing a little fixing than reducing the price!

2. De-Clutter! knick knacks, personal items, things we don't even see anymore are all things that distract a potential buyer in your home. Go through each room of your home with a box and put things on your counters into the box that are not necessary. I have a 3 piece rule - try to find 3 items that are varying heights (and no more) for each surface. If you think it's too much, it is! You have to pack anyway, so this will get you started! If you need ideas, visit a new home center (but not without your agent if you are planning on buying one!) for ideas.

3. Find an agent that you trust AND like! Selling and buying homes can be stressful and it is a great idea to make sure that you can work with the person you hire. Any reputable Santa Clarita Realtor will be able to tell you in a moments notice all the things they will do for you to promote your home. They should be service oriented and keep in touch with you through each step of your sale!

4. If you are moving out of the area, a Santa Clarita Realtor can help you find a wonderful agent in whatever city you are moving to next! We know many agents in other cities and states. If we don't, we know all the questions to ask to make sure your agent there will be just as conscientious as we are with you locally.

5. When your house is for sale, some "red flags" that could be keeping it from being shown are: "appointment only" showing instructions, bad or only one picture, price is too high, or holiday weekends. Keep in mind that with the Internet, many people are looking at your home first online determining if they should come by for a better look!

I hope these little tips give you something to think about while you decide if selling your house is the right thing to do for you at this time. Please let me know how I can further assist you with any Santa Clarita real estate questions! Santa Clarita is inclusive of Valencia, Stevenson Ranch, Saugus, Canyon Country, and Newhall.
